Velvet Returns to the Wairarapa and Mt. Bruce!

Velvet, the tapestry tuna, is on display in all her present glory at Pukaha Mt Bruce over the school holidays.   It takes a lot of work hanging an eel this size……. Just ask wee Bella Ludden-Ogg who had to hold the ladder for her uncle Quin and Grandpa Mick all day:

Thanks Bella and all you great folks near the freshwater “eye of the fish”!!!

Velvet started  her New Zealand journey here in the Wairarapa back in March this year.  Velvet  is now over forty metres long after travelling from Wairarapa to Kaitaia then Whangarei, Gisborne and the East Coast, Manurewa and Taihape.  She is now winding her way from Pukaha Mt Bruce, to various sites in Masterton, then to South Wairarapa.  From there Velvet continues  her journey up and down the country growing all the way.  Her journey may take two years and hopefully will include a twist or two around the Beehive, being on display at Te Papa, and sailing to Tonga and back, like the eels.

Look for Velvet at Pukaha Mt Bruce this holidays;   Outside Lakeview School  25, 26 October,  Wairarapa College27, 28 October,  Makoura College/Kura Kaupapa o Wairarapa 31 October, 1 November,    St Pats 2, 3 November,  at the Featherston Community Centre 14 to 20 November.

Also, to see a wee video of the result of Bella’s labor, check these out:
